Resident fed up with rubbish generated at school
Offered to pay for wire mesh out of his own pocket.
Willie Koekemoer, who resides on Boren Street, Witpoortjie, has had it with the rubbish that not only litters the street but also finds its way onto his property.
The source of the rubbish seems to be Culembeeck Primary, which is opposite his house. “The problem started about four years ago. I have gone to see the principal twice, spoken to teachers and sent emails, but nothing has been done yet,” said Willie.
“When I raised the issue about what they teach the children regarding littering, the principal told me that the children say they are not maids who have to pick up things,” he claimed.
When he showed the Record the littered street, he said, “This is still neat. You should see it after rain or wind”. Willie also pointed out a drain running from inside the school property into the street. He suspects that the litter somehow gets hosed down this drain into the street. “I have offered to pay out of my own pocket for wire mesh to be installed along the fence and at the entry and exit points of the drain, but the principal declined,” he explained. He also said the water from the drain causes a nasty pothole that keeps reappearing.

The Record phoned the school and asked to speak to the principal but she was not available. We explained to the person who answered what it was in connection with and left a message which has not yet been responded to.
