Angry plot dwellers barricade busy road

Disgruntled Plot 323 tent dwellers have taken their anger to the streets to demand answers about the housing issue on 17 April.

This morning, demonstrators blockaded Taylor Road in Wilgespruit with burning tyres and pieces of wood before the arrival of law enforcement.

Speaking to the Northsider at the scene, the demonstrators said that they are sick and tired of empty promises from both provincial government and the City of Johannesburg.

These homeless people were evicted from a nearby plot by the Red Ants in March last year. They were subsequently moved to Plot 323, where they were provided with tents and sanitation.

The angry people said it’s been 13 months without proper answers from the officials and they cannot bear the thought of having to spend another winter season living in tents.

They have also accused the police of firing rubber bullets at them.
