Gauteng SACR welcomes Zandspruit children to clinics at Emthonjeni

The Gauteng SACR recently held two sporting clinics at the Emthonjeni Community Sports Ground for the benefit of the children of Zandspruit.

The recent sports clinics held at Emthonjeni formed part of The Gauteng Department of Sport, Art, Culture and Recreation (Gauteng SACR)’s club development and talent searching programmes, which saw several clinics held at various locations in Gauteng.

These clinics were also formed part of the lead up to the second annual Regional Premier Social Cohesion Games, which took place at various venues across Gauteng on 7 and 8 April.

Clinics were conducted in two sports, i.e. netball and soccer, and both had junior and senior divisions. The clinics kicked off at about 9am, with the children eager to learn some new tools of their chosen sports from the coaches.

Many of the soccer boys who participated in the clinics were from the Zandspruit-based club, Golden Drifters Football Academy.

Chairman of Golden Drifters Proud Shoko, who also serves on the local committee, was thrilled at the turnout for the clinics.

“We are extremely happy with the number of children who took part, showing that they would rather exercise and have fun outside instead of staying at home or causing trouble in the community,” Proud said with a beaming smile.

The netball clinics were also important to Proud and Golden Drifter as they have now started a netball side.

The clinics were also aimed at forming structured sport setups across the province, instead of the unstructured setups many communities adopt in the province. This is important, as of forming the structures, and affiliating to the relevant associations, enables the players who play for the clubs to qualify for the relevant provincial sides as well as the national team.
