‘Mogale City doesn’t care about land grabs’ – DA’s Allan Fuchs

Allan Fuchs, the Democratic Alliance’s (DA) Shadow MEC for Infrastructure Development, said he has had numerous meetings about the ever-expanding informal settlement next to Cradlestone Mall.
He also said he has discussed the matter with the MEC for Infrastructure Development. This department is the custodian department of all government-owned property in Gauteng.
“I exposed the fact that no department in Gauteng took responsibility for the maintenance of government-owned land that is currently not being used for service delivery. A finger-pointing exercise ensued between Infrastructure Development and the Roads and Transport department as to who is responsible. The surrounding residents are severely prejudiced by the lack of government accountability and have faced a huge spike in criminal activity, roads that are crumbling, illegal dumping and long cuts in electricity because Eskom infrastructure is being stolen. In the mean time, the settlement is growing.”
Fuchs said the Mogale City council has not made a meaningful contribution in assisting the surrounding residents, and the Gauteng government has abdicated its responsibility to its citizens.
