Update: New information surfaces about killed foreign national
Suspect drew knife on policeman.
A clearer picture of the shooting of a Nigerian national on Monday night, 9 April, has emerged.
According to K9 unit and Flying Squad spokesperson, Karen du Plessis, it was not a member of the Florida Police that shot and killed the foreign national, but a member of the Flying Squad. She also said that the incident followed a high-speed car chase that started in the Florida CBD. What triggered the chase is uncertain, but Du Plessis confirmed that the suspect was a drug dealer in Florida.

The suspect was shot and killed after his vehicle was searched and a quantity of dagga was found. When the police wanted to arrest him, he ran and jumped a fence. When he was cornered, he drew a knife and the police officer shot him in self-defence. The Nigerian community then gathered at the scene in their hundreds, took the body and threw it on top of a police vehicle. This triggered a tense stand-off between the police and the foreign nationals that bordered on a riot.
