The community in the 10th Avenue area in Newlands turned vigilante when they took the law into their own hands this past Saturday (17 March) after an armed robbery in the area.
In a post on their Facebook page, JHB West Responders wrote, “At 9pm this evening we received an urgent call for assistance to 10th Ave in Newlands. A security officer came across an accident and community members [were] busy assaulting the two occupants of the crashed vehicle.”
It is alleged that a few minutes earlier the two had committed an armed robbery at a property close to where they had the accident.

According to the Facebook post, “The victim of the armed robbery chased the suspects and they lost control of their vehicle and crashed into a tree. The local community then started to assault the robbers whilst trapped in the vehicle they used to commit the crime.”
Both suspects were arrested and taken to a Johannesburg hospital under police escort for further treatment.
