National Shoe The World Day

Help those in need of shoes on #NationalShoeTheWorldDay

15 March is National Shoe The World Day, and is observed annually.

Over 500 million children, teens and adults do not have a pair of shoes to wear, and, despite the terrain and climate, they have to walk barefoot everyday – something not many of us can even begin to imagine.

People who have to live their daily lives without protection on their feet face a lifetime of problems which include foot pain, injury, sores, cuts, infection, parasites, banning from schools and other public places – and the list goes on.

It is sad to say that we call the following scenario lucky, but there are a few that \re fortunate enough to own one pair of shoes – albeit far too big for them. This way, the shoes will last for years (through all their growth spurts). In other cases, they may only have one pair of shoes that are too small and tight – but they make them work. But, for many of them, it is a luxury to have one pair at all.

National Shoe The World Day was inspired in March 2014 by Donald Zsemonadi and the United Indigenous People from Fontana, California and declared by the registrar of the National Day Calendar on 15 March.

The day was created to bring awareness to everyone across the world of the incredible need for shoes. But, it is not only about creating awareness – it’s also a call to action to assist those who have no shoes at all. You can donate your old (but still wearable) shoes to a local shelter for homeless people in your area. You can also donate to a church, school or any other charity organisation that would appreciate the gift of shoes.
