Eleven officials of the Department of Public Safety’s Driver Licensing Testing Centre (DLTC), subdivision Motor Vehicle Authority (MVA) have been dismissed.
During internal disciplinary hearings on 22 February the employees, who were involved in the illegal dumping of fees, were found guilty of fraud, corruption and dishonesty. They were also in breach of the National Road Traffic Act 93 of 1996 as well as the City’s Standard Licensing Procedures.

These former employees were using ways to register vehicles to fictitious individuals and dumping the traffic fees and penalties of offenders by transferring the amounts payable to these non-existent persons on the system. Thereafter the corrupt officials would the re-register the vehicles of the offenders back in their names so that they are not liable for the traffic fees or penalties on the system. They would then issue vehicle licence discs and others documents. This was obviously done at a price to benefit the corrupt officials.
