Five tips for when your vehicle is being towed
If you've had the misfortune of having your car towed by a family or friend because you can't afford a tow company, then you've probably wondered what your role is in it all.
Rest assured that the role the you play while in a car being towed is just as important as any other role in the process.
Your role is to get into the car being towed and make sure it doesn’t veer off into traffic, or run into the back of the vehicle towing you when it stops.
If you would like to know how to actually tow your car, take a look at this week’s edition of Life 101 in the Roodepoort Northsider.
Meanwhile, in case you don’t know what you need to do if you are being towed, here are five tips to make things easier:
• Ensure the ignition is on, the handbrake is down, and that your transmission is in neutral
• Closely observe the brake lights and other indicators of the towing vehicle. This will prepare you for braking, acceleration, etc.
• Try to steer properly and brake your vehicle in sync with the towing vehicle.
• Maintain tension on the towing rope to minimise any jolting.
• Apply light pressure when braking – you don’t want to brake too hard and damage the vehicle towing you.
