R5,2 million heroin bust in Florida

Hawks members stopped for food.

A 41-year-old foreign national was arrested by chance this past Wednesday (7 March) after being caught with heroin with a street value of R5,2 million.

According to Hawks spokesperson Captain Carol Mulamu, members of the Hawks were in Florida on unrelated business when they stopped at Florida Junction to buy food. There they noticed a man in a black BMW stopping next to a blue Nissan Tiida. He hurriedly got out of his vehicle, got into the Nissan and drove off.

The members of the Hawks found this suspicious and followed him to his home. On arrival they requested to search his vehicle and discovered two boxes of heroin.

They arrested the man and impounded both vehicles for further investigation.
