Police are building a strong case against cyclist killer
Masedi said the matter was referred back to the station for further investigation.
“We are trying to build a strong winnable case in court,” said Muldersdrift Police spokesperson, Warrant Officer Masedi Masedi.
Masedi was referring to the case of culpable homicide against the motorist who knocked over and killed Cape Town cyclist, Nino Oppel on 24 February.
Masedi said, “The matter is still under investigation. The court has referred the matter back to us.” He added that the vehicle involved is still being kept at the station.
The saddening death of Oppel was announced by organisers of the Bestmed Berge en Dale cycling race. Oppel was killed while warming up for the event.
It was alleged by the police that the motorist failed to stop after the incident.

The 41-year-old was transported from the scene on Hendrik Potgieter Road to a local hospital where he was certified dead.
The information about the wanted vehicle was circulated on social media, and led to the arrest of the driver on 1 March, almost a week later.
