Listeriosis source has been identified
Pick n Pay manager in Witpoortjie, Stephen Temkin, is removing all brands associated with Listeriosis from the shop's shelves.
The announcement by Health Minister, Aaron Motsoaledi, and the National Institute of Communicable Diseases (NICD) has left the public very concerned about Enterprise polony being identified as the source of the listeria outbreak.
Pick n Pay tweeted: “We are removing products that may be linked to the #listeriosis outbreak from our stores. Customers who bought any Enterprise product (including Bokkie, Renown, Lifestyle, Mieliekip), or any Rainbow ready-to-eat products such as Polony or Russians can return the product for a full refund.”

The Record spoke to the owner of Pick n Pay in Witpoortjie, Stephen Temkin. He said, “The health of our customers is very important to us – that is why we are removing all brands associated with Listeriosis from our shelves. We have also taken the liberty of sterilising our shelves to make sure that they do not contain any bacteria whatsoever. Customers must feel free to return the products for a full refund.”
Pick n Pay customer, Sheron Matlhoko, said she does not buy processed food at all because she is aware of how harmful it can be to children.

A Spar in Weltevreden Park is also removing all products from their shelves that are named as possible culprits in the Listeriosis outbreak. Owner Stelio Ioannou said he will only refund customers in possession of a till slip.
Sterretjie Nursery School owners, Dawie and Maureen Ludick, assured parents that the food they give to their learners is safe from Listeriosis because they do not buy the brands associated with Listeriosis.

Eskort urges costumers to continue buying their product, because it obtains and manufactures its products in Kwa-Zulu Natal and Heidelberg in Gauteng and not in Limpopo. Eskort has also tested negative for Listeria.
According to Health24, people should seek medical attention if they experience fever, stiff neck, confusion, general weakness, vomiting and diarrhoea. People most vulnerable to this disease include those with compromised immune systems, older adults, infants and pregnant women.
