Overwhelming support at annual Wilro Lions Shavathon

Feast of colours as young and old show their support for Cansa

The entrance to the Princess Crossing Shopping Centre was packed with volunteers and community members, covered in a rainbow of colours – on their hands and in their hair.

Abigail and Martin Snyman also supported the initiative.

All of this was for a good cause, as it was in support of the annual Cancer Association of South Africa (Cansa) Shavathon. Sandy van Heerden, the public relations officer of the Wilro Lions club said, “This is one of the initiatives we support every year, as it is a matter that is close to our hearts. But, it was not only the Wilro Lions members who participated, all the other clubs in our zone were involved as well. Clearwater Cyber and Helderkruin Lions had an event at Clearwater Mall, and Roodepoort Host will have theirs at Horizon View Shopping Centre next Saturday, 3 March”.

Owethu Mohlangu chose all her favourite colours.

She added that she hopes that the little bit they are doing to raise awareness at these events will help to get the community more involved. “We also had learners from St Catherine’s School for Girls who assisted with the spraying and volunteers from Cansa who handled the shaving,” Sandy said.

Nicky Jooste took some time to decide if she wanted to have some funky colours in her hair.

The event was well supported by young and old, and Sandy concluded, “We are always grateful for the community’s support, not just at the Shavathon, but for all our projects. Without it, we would not be able to do any of our projects, and any bit of assistance, no matter how small, will make a difference”.

William and James McNab went for bold colours.
