According to Florida police spokesperson Sergeant Mpho More, the operation was aimed at raiding Jerusalem informal settlement, abandoned buildings, creating high police visibility and conducting vehicle checkpoints.

In the first raid, the operation succeeded by arresting one suspect wanted for murder. He was found to be in possession of a toy gun, drugs and suspected stolen car parts of which all were recovered. More said the suspect was no stranger to being caught with illegal substances. “Last year November the very same suspect was arrested for possession of an unlicensed firearm and two toy guns,” she explained.

In the second operation conducted by the Florida detectives, they managed to arrest four suspects aged between 29 and 39 linked to a murder case reported on 18 February at the same informal settlement.

More alluded that two knives, two swords and a toy gun were confiscated.

“We really appreciate the way members of the community are lending hand to the police in order to bring the perpetrators to book,” More thanked all those involved in the successful raids.
