Security companies go all out to curb crime
See which areas were targeted by robbers last weekend.
Local security companies were on a roll last weekend, responding to several incidents, a couple of which resulted in arrests.
Wilgeheuwel and Strubens Valley headlined the weekend as security companies responded at least twice to these areas in criminal incidents.

On Friday, 16 February, BCI Security attended to a housebreaking in Wilgeheuwel where unknown suspects managed to flee with household valuables. On 17 February, Strubens Valley was also targeted by armed robbers who attempted to rob a residence in the area. Fortunately, a suspect was arrested by an off-duty police officer armed with a pellet gun, and subsequently, household items were recovered in the getaway vehicle which the suspects left behind, according to EC Security. BCI Security established that the vehicle was also wanted for other robberies in other parts of Johannesburg.

Officers from SRT Security Services searched along Hendrik Potgieter Road for three other suspects, who unfortunately managed to evade capture.

In the evening of 17 February, BCI responded to reports about multiple gunshots being fired. Upon arriving at the scene, they found a party, at which partygoers were firing shots into the air, in full swing.
“When our vehicles and other security companies arrived, the revellers, who were in unmarked Government vehicles, fled – before the police arrived,” said Gary Jordaan from BCI Security.
