‘Owners to answer for blatant cruelty’
'Every day they walked past him and did nothing'
“He was living with a smashed jaw for more than a week, and his owners were wondering why he was losing weight,” an enraged Mandy Cattanach said.
Cattanach, who is the manager at the Roodepoort/ Krugersdorp SPCA, confirmed that one of the Inspectors made the shocking find and said, “Senior Inspector Mike Allen investigated a case of animal cruelty in Weltevreden Park, and when he arrived at the property, he found a young Pit bull cross in a horrific state.”

“The owners informed our inspector that the injury occurred more than a week ago but they did not think to seek veterinary help. His body was covered with old scars, he had a broken jaw and he could not eat or drink, resulting in a lot of pain in suffering,” Cattanach said.

She added that, due to the severity of his injuries, they had no choice but to end his suffering. “How could his owners walk past him on a daily basis, see his pain and suffering, and just do nothing? They will have to answer for their blatant cruelty,” she said.
The owners will now face the long arm of the law, as a case of animal cruelty has been opened against them.
Cattanach concluded by saying, “Without the public’s support, we would not be able to stand up and defend abused, neglected and abandoned animals.”
