Owner of burnt house appeals for donations

The house caught fire on 22 December and was destroyed.

It’s been a difficult start to the year for Maraisburg resident, Johannes Thanyane, whose house burnt down in a mysterious fire shortly before Christmas.

Thanyane, who’s been picking up the pieces and trying to rebuild his home, has endured a lot of difficulties which have led him to appeal to the public for assistance.

“We’ve been trying to clear the debris, burnt furniture and clothes for the past few weeks. My appeal to the community is for any building material that can help me to reconstruct my home,” the pensioner said. Roofing material, bricks and cement are all desperately needed.

The house caught fire on 22 December and was destroyed. Thanyane estimates that it will cost R300 000 to rebuild the dwelling, claiming that he had not received a report back from the fire department.

Thanyane said that the much-needed donations would speed up the reconstruction of his home, which has already been looted for copper and steel by vagrants.

For more information, contact Johannes Thanyane on 061 647 5550 or Gift Thanyane on 062 020 3700 or alternatively deliver the material to the property at 8, 6th Avenue in Maraisburg.
