Police spokesperson Sergeant Mpho More said an investigation into a case of attempted murder which resulted in injuries to both the vehicle’s occupants (a man and his mother), is under way. More also revealed that 31 spent cartridges were found at the scene of the crime.

More went on to say that the man returned fire after being shot at by an unknown number of assailants, and confirmed that no arrests have yet been made.

The scene was crowded with police vehicles and bystanders as forensic investigators combed the scene. Two eastbound lanes on Ontdekkers Road had to be closed, resulting in the traffic becoming a nightmare in both directions.
