Woman warns fellow residents after nightmare experience

Perpetrators were most likely planning to come back.

A Florida Lake resident, who wants to remain anonymous for security purposes, had a disturbing experience this past Friday night (19 January).

She and her husband were home at their residence in Dabchick Street when the family’s boerboel started barking. They let the dog out but when she returned, she seemed bewildered. They then decided to investigate and found that their perimeter gate’s lock had been cut off. Her husband put another lock on but the woman, now uneasy, kept guard at the window with their firearm.

It was then that she first noticed a vehicle making a U-turn in front of the house, and later someone with an electric torch at the gate.

The next afternoon at about 3pm they went to install extra security measures on the gate when they made a disturbing discovery. Partly hidden underneath a bush, they found a cocked pistol. This strongly suggests that the perpetrators were planning on returning and apparently had no qualms about shooting.

The neighbours, security company and police task team were all called to the scene, and the police took the pistol in as evidence.

The resident would like to remind everyone to remain alert at all times, as danger lurks where you least expect it.
