CPF needs more community patrollers
On 12 January, the team of men and women went all out from 7.30pm until 3.30am the next morning, conducting patrols in the area.
Members of the Honeydew Community Policing Forum are giving of their time to patrol their areas in a bid to ensure a safe living environment.
Since the Honeydew Police precinct is one of the crime hot spots in Gauteng, the members of the CPF have been doing their bit by being the eyes and ears of the community.

Jon Rosenberg, CPF public relations officer, said the initiative started last year and this year they aim to grow their membership. “We started the project last year with about 45 people on board and we cover the whole of Sectors 1, 2 and 3 of the police precinct,” he said.
On 12 January, the team of men and women went all out from 7.30pm until 3.30am the next morning, conducting patrols in the area.
Rosenberg said the duration of the stops on their routes varies, depending on the complaints and emergencies.
“We drive around the area and when we see an open gate, we call the homeowner’s security company to alert its client. We also do control traffic and respond to a lot of accidents,” he explained.
Rosenberg said his goal is to grow the membership to 150. “My goal is to have 50 patrollers per sector,” he added.
Due to the reported shortage of resources at Honeydew Police Station, Rosenberg said CPF members use their own vehicles to do their patrols. “[Unfortunately], we use our own private vehicles at our own cost,” he said, adding that they provide reflector jackets, but some members use their own torches and dashboard cameras.
