Breaking news: whatsapp down in certain parts of South Africa
Is it because of traffic or connection problems?

Whatsapp users reported that they have been experiencing difficulties using the app from about 8pm this evening (31 December).
This is worrisome news for some as they head out to new year’s parties and need to use the app for communication with those who take them home, those they want to meet up with or even those who are in trouble.
The first of these reports allegedly started in the United Kingdom with reports of connection issues quickly flooding in from the United States and South Africa.
While the reports have mostly been connectivity issues such as whatsapps not sending, some users have reported complete failure since 8pm.
The explanation might be the sheer number of users and messages circulation, congesting the application to the point of failure. Understandably so, since every single person using the app is probably sending new year’s wishes to loved ones.
Other theories include the withdrawal of the app from Blackberry OS and Blackberry 10 devices. However, the developers have not yet confirmed the cause of tonight’s issues. There is no way of telling when the problems will be resolved as there has been no official statement from the developers.
