It is with great anticipation that we are writing to you in the hope that you will intervene and assist us with a serious issue that we have been battling with for over a year now.
Roodepoort Metal Exchange was established 54 years ago and has become a major industrial player in Roodepoort. We pride ourselves on what we do and have over many years made major contributions to various charities as well as the DA and have created many jobs for the local community. The standards set by us with regards to the maintenance of our property are high, but we are completely reliant on ourselves for this.
However, since the DA have assumed power over the City of Johannesburg, things have just become worse, contrary to what was promised during the election campaign. Service delivery is non-existent and we have to do our own waste disposal, maintain the verges and drains, and cut the grass on the sidewalks. We have spent thousands of rand on the maintenance of the service road which clearly is not our responsibility. Electrical connections on Albertina Sisulu Road where we are situated are sub-standard and frequent power failures occur as a result of this.
Over and above this, we have for more than a year now, been trying to sort out a billing fiasco relating to our electricity bill. We have followed all prescribed procedures, got the local councillor involved, sent numerous e-mails to the relevant parties, all of whom have promised they would assist us and give clarity on this matter. At one stage, our attorneys got involved, with no success due to a lack of co-operation from people in Council’s departments. We have presented all relevant, factual proof of the incorrectness of the billing system but have been completely ignored in this regard. We have engaged personally with the local municipal offices by visiting them regularly but still receive constant threats that our electricity supply will be cut off, despite fact that the account has been flagged. I am sure that you, as a businessman yourself, will agree that this is not the way things are done and that we need to have this resolved once and for all.
We therefore kindly request your intervention in this matter and hope that you can give value to your statement that “IF JOHANNESBURG WORKS, SOUTH AFRICA WORKS”.
