Unity is important this festive season
Why law enforcement agencies need each other during the festive season.
The run-up to the festive season saw a collaborative effort from local security companies, Community Policing Forums (CPFs) and the Police, working together to ensure safety in the area.
These law enforcement agencies recently embarked on a high visibility patrol in the Honeydew policing area, with over 20 vehicles creating awareness in the community. The patrol follows a united effort to nab the car-jammers who were chased by a score of security companies in Florida Park.

Gary Jordaan, BCI Security’s media liaison officer, emphasised the need for collaboration between security companies, especially at this critical time of the year. “Collaboration between security companies is vital in the fight against crime especially in the run-up to the holiday season,” he said.
Bearing in mind that these companies are actually in competition with one another, Jordaan elaborated as follows: “We have to look at the bigger picture and protect our communities from criminals. The network built by security companies means that information relating to a criminal incident and any lookout for criminals or vehicles is spread across the province within minutes. It is imperative that local security companies work together, sharing intelligence in order to close the net on criminals who target our communities. The use of crime WhatsApp groups that include all security companies means that members can follow an incident and respond if additional resources are required.”
Regardless of the politics within this business, Jordaan indicated that differences are put aside when duty calls. “While there are invariably some politics within the industry and between companies, as in any other industry, what makes the security industry different is that in times of need all security companies stand together and assist each other, setting aside their politics.”
“We need to work together to protect ourselves from criminals who are intent on targeting our officers and clients in our areas,” Jordaan pleaded.
Jordaan also touched on the importance of working closely with CPFs. “Security companies also work closely with the CPFs, because they also play a critical role in the fight against crime. Not only do they provide intelligence about what is happening in their areas but their highly visible patrols and operations are a deterrent to criminals who know that the CPF members network with security companies and response is usually swift,” he concluded.
