Numerous problems in area where man was electrocuted
Children at risk.
Residents of the Kingsley Park complex are up in arms after 25-year-old Ruan Kruger was electrocuted.
Their sentiment is that the incident could have been prevented if the authorities and City Power took action prior to the incident. One of the residents, Marlene van Rensburg said they have informed City Power before of the illegal connections, not only to the electricity box but also to the street light posts. She also alleged that the residents had a hard time trying to get hold of their ward councillor, René Benjamin.
According to Van Rensburg they are also concerned about the fact that school children use the field, where the exposed live cables lie around, as a thoroughfare and to play soccer. Over and above that they have discovered drug paraphernalia scattered in the field, which include syringes, needles and dagga pipes.

Van Rensburg also said that residents regularly disconnected the illegal connections and were often threatened by the knife-wielding culprits who make the illegal connections.
Kruger was electrocuted on Monday when he went to disconnect the illegal connections. At first it was thought that he disconnected one wire and did not see a second, but Van Rensburg said he either accidentally stepped on a live wire or was “maybe pushed” onto the wires.
