29 November is National Electronic Greetings Day. This day is celebrated annually in an effort to remind us of how things have changed.
The sending of a greetings card using the conventional way of placing it in an envelope, sticking a stamp on it and posting it at the Post Office, does not happen too often anymore.
The convenience and speed of sending an electronic greetings card is very attractive to today’s generation, which believes in instant gratification. The electronic means of sending messages also allows more people than ever to participate in this thoughtful process.
It is a well-known fact that we all love it when someone remembers our birthday, anniversary or other important life events. And receiving an electronic greeting means just as much as receiving a greetings card – and it is far more cost-effective.
The electronic greeting came along shortly after electronic mail (email) became available in 1993. The first electronic greetings card site, Electric Postcard, was created by Judith Donath in 1994 at the MIT Media Laboratory.
To celebrate today, visit your favourite electronic greetings website, and send an e-card to that special someone. Or, if you prefer, write an email and send it, just to remind someone you are thinking about them.
