Horror taxi accident on Randfontein Road
Traffic delayed due to road closure.
At approximately 1.40pm on Thursday (23 November), Netcare 911 responded to reports of a very serious collision involving a minibus taxi on Randfontein Road (R41) near Gustav Street in the Durban Deep area. Reports from the scene indicated that a minibus taxi and a car had collided before the minibus taxi overturned.

Paramedics from various services, as well as firefighters and police were on scene. Paramedics attended to numerous patients from the two vehicles. Their injuries ranged from relatively minor to moderate. One commuter was trapped inside the taxi and rescuers used the Jaws of Life to create space to remove the seat that was pinning the victim.
Various ambulances transported 16 patients to hospital. The incident resulted in the closure of Randfontein Road (R41) between Gustav Street and the Miles Stoker circle, and traffic was diverted through the CBD.
The police will investigate the collision and preceding events.
