51 suspects, including one who has been charged with sexual assault, were arrested last week during stop-and-search operations in Roodepoort.
The suspects, aged between 19 and 56, were arrested on the following charges: reckless and negligent driving, assault with the intention to cause grievous bodily harm, an outstanding warrant of arrest, possession of stolen goods, domestic violence, shoplifting, malicious damage to property, possession of drugs, statutory rape, possession of dagga, housebreaking and theft, armed robbery, drunken driving, contravention of the Liquor Act, illegal possession of a firearm, attempted murder, robbery and hijacking, and sexual assault.
The suspects were all detained at the Roodepoort Police Station.
