We are heading for disaster

Marie Kruger from Florida writes:

I was shocked this morning to find that the Post Office in Flora Centre, Florida Hills was dark and closed.

I knocked on the door – nobody.

I went to a woman selling beads at a table nearby and asked about the Post Office. She said they were there.

I went back and with my open hand, knocked on the window. A Post Office woman came to the door and told me that she will not have me disturbing them, I will break the glass and then I will pay. She was addressing a man also waiting, and told him to give his name and number because she will call him as a witness of my banging the window. He refused, saying that I did not bang, I knocked because everything was dark and nobody was at the door.

My question was: Why is the Post Office in darkness? The reply: The lights were cut off last Friday because of non-payment by her company and she does not know when they are going to pay the account.

I was there to ask for a new post box key – mine was lost.

While talking to her inside the dark Post Office, other people also came to be served. She locked the door, saying “What will happen if we get held up here?”

I said no. I don’t agree. Those people are your customers, you have to talk to them. I asked why she doesn’t have one of the staff members sitting at the door and communicating with the public. I never got an answer but inside, behind the doors and behind the counter, there were talking and laughing.

How does this work?

Post Office can not operate.

Staff is at work and being paid.

Staff ignores the public and do not know anything or when the office will be open again.

She then gave me the number of Krugersdorp – not even a ring tone.

The area manager’s number remains engaged.

And then – the government wants the Post Office to do the Sassa thing?

My goodness, we are absolutely heading for disaster, don’t you think?
