Update: New version of taxi shooting surfaces
According to passengers, man was shot multiple times in the head.
Contrary to information a private emergency service had provided to the Record, three people were not injured in yesterday’s shooting.
The ER24 spokesperson, Russel Meiring said in a statement that, “A man, believed to be in his 30s was shot inside his taxi at the Gordon and Hendrik Potgieter Roads intersection in Florida. ER24 paramedics arrived on the scene at 4.45pm to find the body of the taxi driver lying on the side of the road, a short distance away from his vehicle. The passenger that had been in the vehicle at the time of the incident was found seated on the pavement. Paramedics assessed the man and found that he had sustained several gunshot wounds, which left him in a critical condition.”

“CPR and advanced life support interventions were immediately initiated, in an effort to revive the patient. Unfortunately, after some time, no vital signs returned and the man was declared dead on the scene. Fortunately, none of the passengers sustained any injuries,” he concluded.
Netcare 911’s version differs slightly though. In their press release they claimed that over and above the driver being shot numerous times in the head, a passenger also sustained a graze wound from a bullet.
The Record is currently awaiting Florida Police’s comment.
