Roodepark’s market showcases learners’ skills
Learners showcase their handmade products
After the success of their debut arts and craft market, Roodepark School decided to make it an annual event.
The school hosted their second market from 31 October to 3 November, and by the looks of it, it was a bigger success than the first one. The market aims to give the learners at the school the opportunity to showcase the products they have made with the skills and talents they have acquired through hard work and dedication.

It was also an opportunity for the learners to actively help raise money for the school and the Principal, René van der Merwe, said, “All the monies received from the market will be used at the school, either by upgrading the workshops and machinery, or by helping some of the learners who are unable to pay for sport tours or school fees.
We will also use it to help train learners for the world of work.”

Visitors to the market were spoilt for choice as they browsed through the different stalls offering gifts, Christmas decorations, wooden furniture, children’s furniture, toys, home decor, ornaments, steel work, clothing, frozen food, cakes, jams, rusks and pancakes. Some even started their Christmas shopping early by stocking up, not only on gifts, but also delicious baked goods.
The market also had a pop-up coffee shop, where exhausted shoppers could enjoy a slice of home-baked cake and a refreshing drink – all served by the hard-working learners and dedicated teachers.
