Honeydew’s own art performer makes waves in London
Brittany is among 50 other aspiring performing arts professionals granted the opportunity to study at the BRIT School.
Seventeen-year-old Brittany Schroder from Honeydew is now living the dream following her acceptance to study musical theatre abroad.
This former Curro Aurora Independent School learner and Triple Threat Arts Academy performer grabbed the opportunity after clinching a fully-funded scholarship at the BRIT School, a top performing arts school in London.
Brittany is among 50 other aspiring professional performers who were granted the opportunity, following a string of auditions consisting of over 400 applicants.
Even though Brittany has had lessons in ballet and contemporary dancing from the age of four, she still had goosebumps about making it to the finals.
She told Northsider that she was in shock when she received her BRIT School acceptance letter. “I received the news from my aunt in London as I was home in Johannesburg for the Easter holidays. As soon as I saw that I had a place, I burst into tears of relief.
I felt I had done my best in my audition but self-doubt was beginning to set in as there were over 400 applicants,” she said.
She added that she was one of about 100 applicants called back for the second audition in February and was happy to have made the final 50. Brittany expressed her happiness by saying: “It’s so exciting. I have worked so hard for this opportunity for the last three years and am so happy that it has paid off.”
The success of Brittany’s promising performing art career was never in doubt, as she holds numerous accolades from Talent Africa and the South African Championships of Performing Arts. She qualified for Team SA every year from 2011 to 2013, and scooped the crown for the 1st princess in the Miss Little South Africa competition in 2013.
In 2015, at the age of 14, Brittany moved to London on her own to attend the Sylvia Young Theatre School where she had the opportunity to further enhance her drama, dance and singing skills while also completing her General Certificate of Secondary Education (GCSE).
