According to the JHB West Responders’ Facebook page, “A chemical company’s truck with two containers containing sulphuric acid was travelling up William Nicol Road North when the containers slid off the back of the vehicle. The load was not secured.
“The container valves sustained damage and leaked, causing a chemical spill to run down the road.”
The City of Johannesburg’s Hazchem Team, Urban Search and Rescue, and Netcare 911 Rescue and Ambulance Service were quickly on scene to contain the area and clean up the spill.
It is believed that one lane has been opened again.
