Aggrieved Chubb workers wreak havoc
It is unclear how many striking workers were involved and what their grievances were.
An alleged clash between striking and non-striking Chubb security staff on 30 October resulted in injuries and damage to company property.
The JHB West Responders, a community-based crime alert organisation, reported that an urgent call for medical assistance was received from a member of the Florida Community Policing Forum after an incident involving striking security workers who had assaulted three non-striking staff at a dealership in the Weltevreden Park area.
“A member of JHB West Responders was passing the location when the call came in. He made his way to the dealership to offer assistance,” a JHB West Responder spokesperson stated.

According to the source, “Upon initial investigation, it was determined that the Chubb officers that were attacked also had their firearms stolen. Some Chubb vehicles were damaged by the group of striking workers.”
The Northsider learnt that police members from Honeydew, Florida, Roodepoort, Douglasdale and Linden arrived within a few minutes of calls for assistance.
