Pantie packs to provide comfort for young girls
Margaret Hirsch decided to lend a helping hand to the girls of a local school who have been missing classes at least once a month because of a lack of sanitary protection.
Schoolgirls at Matla Combined School in Krugersdorp are now able to focus on their year-end examinations following a visit from representatives of the Hirsch Group.
This electrical appliances company, based in Strubens Valley, visited the school recently as part of their Girls with Dignity project.

Led by its chief operations officer, Margaret Hirsch, the company motivated and empowered the learners to always strive to be the best they can be. “The aim [of the project] is to restore the dignity of menstruating young ladies in rural schools, by providing them with the Subz washable pads and panties that will allow the girls not to miss school,” Margaret explained.
“The pads have been tested in numerous schools and many of the girls’ grades have [improved],” Margaret added.
After realising that the girls had to miss school at least once a month due to their menstrual periods, Margaret decided to land a helping hand.
“These pantie packs will change their lives and they will be able to attend school every day,” Margaret said with confidence.
“The pack consists of a pair of panties that has press studs on it – the sanitary pad clips onto the pantie. The packs are very user-friendly as the pad clips on and off easily, and the inner is a hydrophobic fabric. It is fully washable and therefore reusable and will last for as long as five years,” said Narisha Somaroo, Hirsch’s public relations officer. She added that the school received more than 350 of these pantie packs.
