For those who have an eye for art or wish to learn a new skill, Art Classes are open and available to all at the Witpoortjie Recreational Centre.
The class, run by Riaan Marais, is an informative class that people can join to learn the history and different forms of art while getting first-hand experience and creating pieces they can be proud of.

Riaan gave the Record a short overview of the classes and how long he’s been teaching.
“I started teaching art in 1994, because art is a huge passion that I want to share with other people. The classes actually started out of the guitar classes I was taking. My instructor wanted to learn how to do art, so we taught each other new skills, and now the class has grown into what it is today.”
“Currently, I have eight students in my Tuesday class. I teach another two classes once a month on Thursdays and Fridays with a focus on water colours.
The Thursday class is held near the Walter Sisulu Botanical Garden and the Friday class is in Fourways,” he added.
Riaan said unfortunately he does not offer classes to children, but the classes are open to both young and mature adults.
“Unfortunately, I

do not have the facilities to cater for children, but I do work with adults and my services are available to them. The classes are in the morning for three hours per week and cost R400 per month per person. Each student should have their own equipment. For the first half of the class we practice techniques and the second half I teach theorised principles of art.”
