RCA gives feedback to members during AGM
Members receive feedback on past year's activities
At the recent Annual General Meeting (AGM) held by the Roodepoort Care of the Aged (RCA), members received a progress report on the state of affairs during the past year.
The meeting, which was held at the Tornado Park Retirement Village, was opened with a word of welcome by the Chairman, Darrell Phillips. “As we plan ahead for the future of this auspicious association to which we all belong, it has been in gratitude that we, the Executive Board of the RCA, have enjoyed the assistance of many dedicated and committed persons who have made the interests and needs of the aged their priority. It is in following their footsteps that the younger generations will benefit,” he said.
The meeting highlighted the association’s biggest challenge for the year – the financial position. “It must be stated that, due to circumstances beyond our control, we had to dig deeply into our reserves with resolve and resourcefulness. This has led to difficult decisions benefiting the financial status of the RCA in general,” said Darrell.
Some other issues that were also discussed, included the adverse publicity received by the RCA, and members were also reminded that anyone who attempts to bring the RCA into disrepute, will be dealt with in accordance to the Constitution.

During the meeting, the membership fees were discussed, and it was decided to keep the fee at R50 per annum. “However, we have decided to place a ceiling on increasing membership to 760 members, because our commitment to member will not be sustained at its current level if we continue to accept new members. New applications will be put on a waiting list and membership granted if and when a vacancy opens up,” he said.
The chairman used the opportunity to thank everyone for their hard work during the past year, as well as the Department of Social Development, because without their contributions, the RCA would not have been able to assist its members. He also thanked all other contributors – corporate and private – for their continued support.
Before the meeting was adjourned, the Auditors, Haasbroek and Steyn was elected as RCA Auditors for the forthcoming term. The members also had an opportunity to elect Executive as well as Management Board Members and an Ombudsman.
Executive Board members that were elected during the meeting, were:
• D Phillips – Chairman
• A Mompei – Vice Chairman
• C Carls – Treasurer
• R Bauer – Public Relations Officer
• M Cluttey – Secretary
A Harris, R Bauer, V Bush, D Lupton, W van der Schyff, A Reed, D Phillips, M Matthews, G Richardson, D Venter, I Burnett, C Carls, M Cluttey, A Mompei, V Chawles and L Rhyn were elected as Management Board members. M Matthews was re-elected as the Ombudsman for a further term.
“I just want to thank the Executive and Management Board members for their dedication and hard work during the last year, and the RCA staff for always being there and keeping the doors open,” he concluded.
