Motorists urged to report misconduct by JMPD

“If you see any officer taking money, you must report them,” said JMPD community outreach officer, Ouma Morudi.

 

Have you ever been asked for a bribe by a Johannesburg Metro Police officer? Ouma Morudi, JMPD’s community outreach officer has urged motorists not to hesitate to lodge a complaint about such activities.

Morudi was speaking to residents of Weltevreden Park at the local clinic on 5 October during the facility’s open day.

She, in front of other City of Johannesburg officials, encouraged residents to report incidents of bribes of which their complaints will be taken seriously.

“If you see any officer taking money, you must report them,” she stated.

She added that officers can be identified with their name tags and vehicle number plates. She also made note of the issue which was raised on the floor that some JMPD officers try to keep their vehicles at a distance from the duty spot to avoid number plates or markings identification.

Morudi reiterated, enforcing residents to report these complaints, say that JMPD has an internal affairs department which looks into such complaints.
