Maragon chess team places well
The U/13 Maragon chess team competed in a tournament with over 900 other players.
Maragon Ruimsig Primary School has hailed its U/13 chess team, which put on an incredible performance at this year’s Gauteng Chess Championships on 9 September.
The event was held at the University of Pretoria’s Mamelodi campus, where 965 chess players from all over Gauteng came together to participate in the tournament.
Representing the D12, the Maragon team competed against 24 other U/13 teams and was placed fourth overall in its age group.
Gerda Kies, the chess coach at Maragon, was very impressed with the high quality of chess and the end result.
Byron Grové, the vice-captain of the team said: “It was well organised and we enjoyed playing in the Gauteng Championships. We had lots of fun.”
