Market day for a good cause
Learners donate portion of Market Day profits
Maragon Ruimsig Primary School’s Grade 7 learners held their annual Market Day in August. The event is an opportunity for the learners to be creative and show their entrepreneurial skills. This year’s stalls interested many and learners came up with original business names such as The 3 Marketeers, Third Wheelin’ and Unique-Corns. They presented a variety of goods and had lots of fun.
Maragon Ruimsig strives to empower the community and donates 10 per cent of the profits from the Market Day to a charity organisation in the area every year. This year they donated R4 100 to the South African Riding for the Disabled Association, a non-profit organisation in Ruimsig that focuses on therapeutic horse-riding to help and develop people in the community.
“As the Economic and Management Sciences educator and organiser of Market Day, I want to thank all the learners for their hard work.
It brings me such fulfilment every year to see how they turn into young entrepreneurs,” said Janedy Saaiman.
Rachel Jacobs, one of the Grade 7 representatives, said it was a lovely experience meeting people who work so hard to help those in need. They also learned how some people are unable to do things that they take for granted.
