Duo in Lions team

Talented rugby players make Lions team

Two of Maragon Ruimsig Primary’s rugby players have been selected for the Golden Lions Rugby Union’s (GLRU) Red Squad. Jordan Swanepoel and Otsile Maphosa went through a lengthy series of trials for the Central Johannesburg West U/12 and U/13 teams. These teams compete against the East, West, Far West and Central teams. The different regions play against each other over a period of four weeks, with selectors present at all the matches, and 40 boys are selected for the Red Squad. They will train during October and will be tested by the GLRU in March next year, when there will be further trials to select the Golden Lions U/12 and U/13 Craven Week teams.

Jordan said it was a great experience and he learned lots of new things.

“The opposition was tough and challenged us. I am looking forward to a positive 2018 rugby season.” His sentiments were echoed by Otsile, who added that he learned more about playing as a team. “We have to be 100 per cent committed to the team. It was an excellent experience and I can’t wait until next year.”
