Police members acknowledged for successful convictions

Good police work recognised.

Recently, the Roodepoort Police Station commander, Brigadier Manale, acknowledged his members for a number of arrests that led to successful convictions.

The following members received certificates:

• Detective Sergeant SM Lekoko received one certificate for arresting a suspect on a charge of possession of an illegal firearm. The accused was convicted and a sentence of eight years’ imprisonment was imposed.

• Detective EM Teme also received one certificate, for arresting a suspect on a charge of possession of an illegal firearm. The suspect was convicted and sentenced to 10 years in jail.

• Detective Sergeant GP Shilaluke received a certificate for the arrest of a suspect that led to a conviction of life imprisonment for possession of illegal firearms.

• Detective Warrant Officer E Malinga received three certificates; the first for the successful arrest and conviction of an accused who was found guilty of possession of an illegal firearm. A 10-year sentence was handed down. The second accused got fifteen years’ imprisonment and the third accused got nine years’ imprisonment for housebreaking and theft, plus fifteen years’ imprisonment for robbery. The last two sentences will be served concurrently.

• Detective Warrant Officer Mtembile received two certificates for an arrest that led to 15 years’ imprisonment for a charge of possession of an illegal firearm.

• Detective Constable Mokala received two certificates for a conviction for armed robbery that led to to 15 years’ imprisonment.
