Canoeist wins gold at prestigious competition
A member of Florida Lake Canoe Club recently won a gold medal at the International Canoe Federation (ICF) World Marathon Championship event. The international competition was hosted in Pietermaritzburg from 5 to 10 September and paddlers from countries such as Hungary, Portugal and Ukraine participated.
Constant Olivier, who is physically disabled, is registered as a PARAKL3 paracanoeist, and represented South Africa in the Sub Grand Master age category. He finished his 11,8km race, the international distance required for paracanoeing, in a time of 1 hour 13 minutes.
South Africa’s top men paddlers collected podium positions in both the senior K1 and K2 races (Single Kayak and Double Kayak) and the Master category in the World Master Cup Races.
