Smash and grab foiled on Hendrik Potgieter Road at notorious hotspot

A suspect has been arrested this evening, 15 September on the corner of Nick Diedericks and Hendrik Potgieter Roads after a smash and grab attempt.

According to BCI Security, who have adopted the intersection due to an outcry over the spike of crime, the suspect and his accomplice attempted to smash and grab a vehicle.

BCI’s operations manager Rudi Holtzhausen said an off-duty BCI officer who was next to the victim’s  vehicle immediately jumped out and tried to apprehend the suspects.

“He started chasing them and he followed one suspects all the way down to Lubbe Roughe Road where we gave him backup and arrested the suspect,” Rudi explained.

He added that a Honeydew Police vehicle was dispatched and took the suspects.
