Operations halted after construction worker’s death
Postmortem results will ascertain reason for the construction worker's death, says the project’s community liaison officer Jan von der Heyde.
Operations have been halted at the pipeline project on JG Strydom Road in Weltevreden Park, following the tragic death of a construction worker on 13 September.
A day later, on 14 September there was no sign of any work being done on the site – the area remained barricaded.
The worker died after falling into an excavated area, allegedly when soil collapsed.

According to paramedics at the scene, the man was declared dead after his body had been retrieved by the City of Joburg Trench Unit.
The project’s community liaison officer, Jan von der Heyde told Northsider that he could not comment on the matter. He said he is waiting for a report with the victim’s postmortem results to confirm the cause of death. He added that operations will resume next week.
A statement is expected to be released by Rand Water later today on behalf of F46 Rand Water Project.
A full report is to be published in next week’s edition of the Roodepoort Northsider.
