Pearly told the Record that the detective dealing with the case is not forthcoming with information and even went as far as asking her why she needed the information. She went on to say that last Friday, 8 September, the detective told her that the driver of the VW Kombi that had crashed into the vehicle in which the four teenagers were passengers, had been discharged from the hospital and that he “did not know where the driver was”. He also allegedly said he did not know where the Kombi was. She said that when she and her husband did their own research on eNaTIS they found that the Kombi’s registration number did not exist.

When Florida Police were asked to comment, they sent the following concise email. “We spoke to the detective about the case. The warning statement of the driver of the Caravelle was obtained and he is still admitted at the hospital. The Caravelle does exist and they found the owner. The case is still under investigation. They are still waiting for the postmortem and scene photos. The detective further told us that Mrs De Silver was at his office and when he explained everything to her she looked satisfied.”

The email contradicts Pearly’s version of what the detective told her.
