Fleurhof families need your help

Fire destroys all of their belongings

The lives of approximately ten people were changed in an instant when their informal dwellings burnt down.

According to a Facebook post by Ward 70 councillor, Caleb Finn, a fire broke out in the informal settlement on 3 September, destroying five informal dwellings.

“The affected people are really battling, as they have lost all their belongings. The most-needed items at this time are food, clothing, blankets and materials to rebuild,” Finn said.

According to the Community Liaison Officer for Fleurhof, Kenneth Ncentsa, the fire started in one of the informal dwellings before spreading to the others. “The fire spread because there was no water in the tankers and we could not extinguish the flames. Luckily, nobody was injured,” he said.He is appealing to community members who can assist with any of the above items, to contact him on 073 494 8812.
