National Beer Lover’s Day
Raise your glass and enjoy your favourite beer on #NationalBeerLover'sDay
7 September is one of the best beverage days of the year, so raise your glass, say, “Hip, hops, hooray!” and celebrate National Beer Lover’s Day.
Beer – and its brewing processes – may predate history, because it varies as the grains and flavour of beer continue to evolve over time. There were a few beer lovers and patriots among the founders of the United States, including William Penn, who started the first brewery in Pennsylvania, the first president, George Washington, who had a recipe for beer in his notes, and Samuel Adams, who holds a place in both beer and tea history.
Crafting beer is a strong tradition that often requires years of training and experience in the trade. It may take years to develop the skill and experience needed by a brewmaster to produce a quality beer every time and the most important, non-negotiable requirement needed, is a definite love for beer and the craft.
Beer is made from four main ingredients, and – although not everyone knows it – contains more than 90 per cent water.
Beer is a popular drink and is available in a number of varieties to cater for everyone – from beer connoisseurs to the person who just enjoys a good brew now and then.
The annual holiday was created by Foodimentary creator, John-Bryan Hopkins, when he came up with the idea a few years ago. In an interview, he said the idea came to him on a whim. “While others were celebrating National Acorn Squash Day on 7 September, I felt like having a beer, and that is how National Beer Lover’s Day originated,” he said.
To celebrate today, why not try that new beer you’ve been meaning to? Visit a local brewery, stop by your favourite pub or host a backyard bash with your best buddies and enjoy an ice cold beer or ale. Cheers!
