Calling all bird watchers!
Bird watchers will not be disappointed in the exhibits at the African Bird Fair.
Poortview — BirdLife South Africa is pleased to announce that The African Bird Fair will once again take place at the Walter Sisulu National Botanical Garden.
The fair, which will take place on 9 and 10 September, will be have a variety of exhibitors who will be showcasing all things birding, including binoculars, spotting scopes, bird books, birding apps, bird feeders, wildlife art, birding holiday destinations and tour operators. Throughout the weekend there will also be lots of things happening, including guided bird walks, guided botanical walks, photography workshops, fascinating presentations and lots of fun activities for the kids.
Opening times on both days are 8am to 5pm.
Guided Walks:
9 September
8am–9.30am: Advanced Birding Walk
8am–9am: Guided Botanical Walk
9am–10am: Creepy Crawly Walk with Jonathan Leeming (by booking only, minimum age requirement of 8 years of age)
11am–12am: Beginner Birders’ Walk
1pm–2.30pm: BirdLasser Walk (departing immediately after the workshop)
3pm–4.30pm: Advanced Birding Walk
10 September
8am–9.30am: Advanced Birding Walk
8am–9am: Guided Botanical Walk
9am–10am: Advanced Scorpion Walk with Jonathan Leeming (by booking only, minimum age requirement of 12 years of age)
11am–12am: Beginner Birders’ Walk
3pm–4.30pm: Advanced Birding Walk
3pm–4.30pm: BirdLasser Walk
The guided walks will be clearly indicated with a ‘Meet here for Guided Walks’ sign.

11.30am–1pm: BirdLasser Workshop, by Ernst Retief and Henk Nel
2pm–3pm: Venom: The human perception of a miracle of nature, by Jonathan Leeming
3.30pm–4.30pm: The Black Eagles of Roodekrans, by Ernest Porter
10 September
9am–9.45am: Champions of the Flyway and Birding Israel – A bird race for conservation, by John Kinghorn
10am–11am: Bird Brain – Inside the mind of a birder: A comedic look at what makes birders tick, by Faansie Peacock
11.30am–1pm: Gauteng – a small and surprising wonderland for birding, by Etienne Marais, in association with the Gauteng Tourism Authority
2pm–3pm: One World, by Jonathan Leeming. The choices that we make every day have the power to contribute positively to sustainability, or to add to existing problems.
3.30pm–4pm: Birds and wildlife of Madagascar, by Heinz Ortmann
