Residents warned about problematic crimes

House-breakings remain high in Sector 3, police warned during the crime awareness fun day.

Various law enforcement agencies including the Honeydew Policing Forum and the Sector 3 committee rallied together to host a one-of–a-kind crime awareness and fun day at a local shopping centre on 2 September.

Patrons never felt so safe during the event at Retail Crossing Shopping Centre as police and local security companies gather in the premises and displayed their vehicles as part of the campaign.

The Honeydew police Sector 3 Sector manager Warrant Officer Karen Jacobs told Northsider that the aim of the event was to educate residents about the problematic crimes in Sector 3. “Currently we have a huge problem with theft out of motor vehicle and theft of motor vehicle especially at shopping centres, malls and schools,” Jacobs said.

“Make sure when you lock your vehicle before you leave, make sure you actually locked it and don’t just press the button.

We want people to be alert and be crime prevention aware at any time whether it is during the day or night,” she advised.

She also disclosed that the area has endured a spike in house breakings especially in the townhouses and complexes. She further urged residents to make sure their doors locked and windows are closed at all times.

The involved units also took to the parking lot and inside the centre to distribute crime prevention which was well-received by the patrons.

The event also provided some entertainment for the children. Apart from the colourings and lollipops that kept them busy, the kiddies also were given the opportunity to be inside a police vehicle and also try out some awesome but vital police gear such as the bullet proof vest and fog mask.

The CPF Sector 3 acting chairperson, Carolyn Lanzillotti, shared her gratitude on behalf of the forum. “We would like to thank the centre for allowing us to host the event here as well as thank the horse and K9 units; police and security companies for joining us in this event,” she concluded.
