Police and security team up to spread crime awareness in schools
Authorities host a crime prevention demonstration for little ones.
A crime awareness demonstration at Panorama Primary School has left the little ones unwilling to commit any crime, even stealing a pencil.
Honeydew Police along with BCI Security spent time on the morning of 31 August illustrating some crime prevention measures and warnings during the assembly in the school’s hall.

The demonstration consisted of a sniffer dog finding narcotics, a trained law-enforcement dog catching a criminal, and a talk about firearms and stranger danger.
Chris Janeker from BCI said they got involved to give exposure to the security industry and also address the issue of drugs in the area. “We wanted kids to be aware of the drugs because we’ve got a problem with drugs in the area, and the schools are involved as well,” he said.

He added, “We just wanted to make the kids aware of what to do and what not to do, and also warn them about firearms and stranger danger.”
Honeydew Police Station’s Warrant Officer Karen Jacobs demonstrated how to remember and use the 10111 police emergency number. She also cautioned the learners to stay away from their parents’ firearms, saying that they must not touch, remove or even know where their father’s gun safe is.

She also encouraged the learners to listen to their teachers.
Janeker indicated that they will try to do these demonstrations at other local schools as well.
